Discus Technique:
- To hold the discus you should have your hand covering the back half of the discus so that it will come off your index finger as you throw.
- Don't grip the discus, just have your finger tips over the edge so that you can hold it like you are carrying books to class (it should fall out if you just raise your arm)

Long Jump Technique:
- Three Main techniques:
- Stride/Sail
- Hang
- Hitch Kick
- What technique you use in the air is up to you, but you want to do certain things to ensure greater distance:
- Push off on your last step hard to get some added height
- Practice with bounding steps to work on the push off
- Swing your arms up and then back down - Can see it all of the diagrams below (arms above head and then sweep them back down)
- Standing jumps with swinging arms helps - similar to volleyball spike approach
- You want to swing your legs back in front of you while in the air to get both feet out in front of you for your landing
- Practice with a two foot standing jump - or jumping jacks toe touch
- Push off on your last step hard to get some added height
