Theory of Plate Tectonics
- The Theory of plate tectonics helps explain the geological world around us (mountains, lakes, etc.)
- Landforms Slideshow
- What questions do you have about each of these landforms? (E.G. Where is this? Why does it look like that/ How was this made?)
- Do you already think you know / have theories about these landforms?
Look at this topographical map (Darker Brown = Taller Elevation above ground ; Darker Blue = Deeper in the Ocean) to think about the following questions:
- Where are the tallest mountains? Why are they taller than the others?
- What do you see in the oceans? What do you think is happening there?
Evidence of Movement
"Doesn't the east coast of South America fit exactly against the west coast of Africa, as if they had once been joined? This is an idea I'll have to pursue." - Alfred Wegener to his future wife, December, 1910.

Further Evidence of Continents Moving:
- Seafloor Evidence -> Before WW2 people thought the bottom of the Ocean was flat (imagine a beach just continuing to the bottom of the ocean
- Seafloor Spreading
- Magnetic Reversals on Seafloor
- Magnetic Polarity On Land
